MP ANNOUNCES, 'HEROES REALLY DO EXIST'

2.37.26pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 7th Oct 2008

There are people living among us with super powers. The power to enrich the lives of ordinary Herefordshire people. Heroes who dedicate their time helping others, campaigning to improve society, and raising millions for good causes.

These Heroes have one thing in common, their age! Many in their 70s or 80s, some even in their 90s. These extraordinary people are still volunteering; working tirelessly to make their communities a better place. Enabling others to achieve goals and realise their true potential.

Recently, Paul Keetch MP was invited to nominate a senior volunteer Hero for the MP Heroes Awards from his constituency and chose Mr Jim Lawes, President of Herefordshire Access for All. Subsequently Mr Lawes was presented with a Contribution to the Community Award of which he is very proud.

Commenting, the MP said, "The MP Heroes are some of the most inspiring people you'll ever meet. They help us understand that everyone can give something back to society, no matter what their age or personal circumstances. We hope these Awards will encourage others to volunteer. And that people will see no one is too old to be a valued member of society.

The event highlights the importance of older volunteers in their local community by acknowledging and recognising their sterling work."
