FLOOD CLAIM NOT SUBMITTED BY HEREFORDSHIRE COUNCIL

10.20.32am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 30th Jun 2008

Paul Keetch MP for Hereford has been informed by the Department for Transport that Herefordshire Council have not taken up an offer to claim for funds to assist in the aftermath of the flooding which hit parts of the County.

Commenting, the MP said, "It is disappointing that this opportunity has not been taken up by an already over stretched council in an economic climate where funds have been wasted, especially after the exposed ICT scandal in 2007."

"These opportunities presented by the Department for Transport could greatly improve many roads that were damaged by the floods and all the council needed to do was apply. I am extremely disappointed to discover that an application was not submitted and greater funding will not be made available outside the public purse."
