Assurance For Keetch Over A465 Speed Limit Reduction11.41.26am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 12th May 2008
Local Lib Dem MP Paul Keetch has recently met with the Highways Agency and campaigners in the form of local residents and Parish Councillors to discuss the reduction of the speed limit on the A465 at Wormbridge from the current national speed limit to 40 mph. The MP is delighted to reveal that, following on from the site visit and meeting held at the Gallanthus Gallery situated on the A465, the Highways Agency have agreed to look into the possibilities of speed restrictions at the Wormbridge location. David Smith of the Agency told Mr Keetch that a review of the A465 was underway but this stretch of road would be looked at first. Although the road is likely to be de-trunked in the next few years and handed over to Herefordshire Council, the Agency would still recommend a revised speed limit if they considered it was needed. "It is good news for the people who use and live near this stretch of road," said Mr Keetch who continued, "It's also a tribute to those who have campaigned for a speed reduction for many years and especially to the fourteen year old Chay Sykes who has taken up the campaign in the past few months. "It is clear that something has to be done - I hope that the Highways Agency make their recommendations soon."
