Keetch supports daycare for Alzheimer's sufferers

12.00.00am GMT Tue 18th Mar 2003

Paul Keetch, MP for Hereford, has met with representatives of the Alzheimer's Society in their attempts to ensure continued daycare provision in Herefordshire for people with dementia.

The service has been threatened by changes in the administration of care for people with mental illness, between Herefordshire Council's Social Services department and the NHS Primary Care Trust.

"What is vital is that the Alzheimer's Society is properly funded and able to continue with the service it has provided for local people for years," said Paul Keetch. "If anything, there is a need for the service to be extended. I am taking the matter up with the PCT."

The Alzheimer's Society is launching a campaign to reverse the threatened closures and to extend daycare to all parts of the county.
